Abhishek Lodha, Managing Director of Lodha Group, one of India’s largest real estate companies, and his family have set a unique example by donating Rs. 20,000 crore stake of their business unit “Macrotech Developers” for public welfare and social development works. It is worth mentioning that Abhishek Lodha is the son of Maharashtra Government Cabinet Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha and well-known litterateur and social worker Dr. Mrs. Manju Lodha and this important social initiative taken due to their good family values is being appreciated widely.
Giving information in this regard, Mr. Abhishek Lodha said that taking inspiration from Tata Group, he and his family have donated about Rs. 20,000 crore stake of their company ‘Macrotech Developers’ & decided to transfer shares of Tata Group for philanthropic purposes. In this sequence, Abhishek Lodha and his family, as the owners and promoters of Lodha Group, have transferred their stake of about Rs 20,000 crore of their listed entity “Macrotech Developers” to the company’s philanthropic initiative “Lodha Philanthropy Foundation (LPF)”, which is a non- profit organization. All its income and assets are used by this organization only for national and social purposes. Commenting on the family’s decision to allocate a significant part of its wealth for national and social purposes, the MD and CEO of Lodha Group said that about 100 years ago, the Tata family had given a large part of its stake in its enterprise to Tata Trust. This public welfare initiative of theirs had a very deep impact on Indian society. He said that this good and noble work done by Tata Trust has always been a great inspiration for me.
Therefore, we have been continuously taking forward the activities of our philanthropic foundation in the last few years. We believe that now that we have the right programs, leadership and team, the Foundation can make a meaningful difference in realizing the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s dream of making India a developed nation by 2047. He said that Lodha Philanthropy Foundation represents the dreams of all 1.5 billion Indians, as a result of which the whole of India will now be a partner in the growth and success of the Lodha Group and will benefit all Indians. He said that this is our humble contribution to nation building in the spirit of Jan Bhagidari. He informed that Lodha Philanthropy Foundation has four major focus areas, which include women, children, environment and Indian culture.
Started in 2013, the Foundation runs diverse programs in various social sectors including education, women empowerment and planned urbanization, including the organization ‘Lodha Unnati’, which focuses on increasing women participation in India’s workforce by working with corporates in India. He said that the Justice Gumanmal Lodha Scholars Program is inspired by the legacy of the late Chief Justice Gumanmal Lodha, who rose from humble beginnings to the pinnacle of fame in the judiciary and politics. He said that the Lodha RMI Net Zero Accelerator seeks to transform buildings and infrastructure within the built environment in India to become net zero on carbon and other GHG emissions as soon as possible. Other major initiatives of the Foundation include the Chandresh Lodha Memorial School, which provides high-quality education to about 10,000 students with a special focus on character development. Also, his Sitaben Shah Mandir Foundation has opened several temples, which supports initiatives to improve the knowledge of ancient and religious heritage in the younger generation.
