Mumbai: The country’s leading commodity derivatives exchange MCX recorded a total turnover of Rs 9,96,690.05 crore in 86,91,222 trades in various commodity futures, options and index futures during the week from January 24 to 30, of which the share of commodity futures trading was Rs 1,26,097.86 crore and the share of options was Rs 8,70,559.42 crore. A movement of 507 points was seen in the February futures of the precious metals index Bulldex.
During the week, in precious metals futures, Gold & Silver witnessed a total turnover of Rs.84,478.46 crore in 849,705 trades on MCX. Among Gold contracts, MCX Gold February futures per 10 gram opened the week at Rs.79,700, touched an intra-day high of Rs.81,835 and a low of Rs.79,500 during the week and closed the week at Rs.81,723, up by Rs.2,097. Against this, Gold-Guinea February contract per 8 gram jumped Rs.1,377 to Rs.65,538 and Gold-Petal February contract per 1 gram jumped Rs.144 to Rs.8,075. Gold – Mini February futures opened at Rs.79,950 per 10 gram and rose by Rs.1,945 to close at Rs.81,539.
In Silver futures, Silver March futures per 1 kg opened the week at Rs.91,600, touched an intra-day high of Rs.93,799 and a low of Rs.89,369 during the week and closed at Rs.93,446, up by Rs.2297. Silver – Mini February contract rose by Rs.2166 to close at Rs.93,304 and Silver – Micro February contract rose by Rs.2,170 to close at Rs.93,295.
In non-ferrous metals futures, a turnover of Rs.12,722.73 crore was seen in 100,835 trades on MCX. Copper February futures opened at Rs. 835.25, up Rs. 0.15 to Rs. 832.50, while Aluminum February contract rose by Rs. 1.15 to Rs. 252.10 and Lead February contract fell by Rs. 0.30 to Rs. 180. Zinc February contract fell by Rs. 4.35 to Rs. 267. In mini futures, Aluminum-Mini February futures rose by Rs. 1.25 to Rs. 252.25 per kg, Lead-Mini February contract fell by Rs. 0.70 to Rs. 180.05, and Zinc-Mini February futures fell by Rs. 4.40 to Rs. 267.55.
In energy segment futures, MCX witnessed a turnover of Rs.28,858.19 crore in 728,596 trades. Crude Oil February futures opened at Rs 6,443 per barrel at the beginning of the week, touched an intra-day high of Rs 6,499 and a low of Rs 6,250 during the week, closing at Rs 6,319 with a decline of Rs 165, while Crude Oil-Mini February futures closed at Rs 6,322 down by Rs 165. Natural Gas February futures opened at Rs 300 per MMBTU, fell by Rs 28.60 to Rs 269.10 and Natural Gas-Mini February futures closed at Rs 28.90 to 269.10.
In Agricultural Commodities, MCX witnessed a turnover of Rs.38.48 crore in 681 trades. Cotton Candy February futures opened at Rs.54,600 per candy, touched an intra-day high of Rs.54,800 and a low of Rs.51,310 during the week and closed the week down by Rs.710 at Rs.53,610. Mentha oil futures February contract declined by Rs.6.60 per 1 kg to Rs.924.50.
In terms of turnover, among precious metals on MCX, Gold futures traded 58,667.571 kg worth Rs.47,217.15 crore in 187,949 trades and Silver futures traded 4,053.889 tonnes worth Rs.37,261.31 crore in 661,756 trades. In the energy segment, Crude Oil futures traded 8,532,600 barrels worth Rs.5,437.14 crore in 62,354 trades and Natural Gas futures traded 67,55,52,500 MMBTU worth Rs.19,359 crore in 304,085 trades. In agricultural commodities, Cotton candy futures traded 19248 candies worth Rs.25.55 crore in 332 trades, Mentha oil contracts traded 139.68 tonnes worth Rs.12.93 crore in 349 trades.
Open interest at the end of the week stood at 20,949.480 kg in Gold futures and 1,133.719 tonnes in Silver futures, 8,41,600 barrels in Crude Oil and 2,50,77,500 MMBTU in Natural Gas and 15,936 candies in Cotton candy and 165.6 tonnes in Mentha oil.
In index futures, 338 lots worth Rs.32.77 crore were traded in 326 trades in Bulldex futures on MCX during the week. Open interest was at 125 lots in Bulldex futures. Bulldex February futures opened at 19,350 and moved up by 277 points to close at 19,668 with a movement of 507 points.
In Options, Options on Futures recorded a notional turnover of Rs.8,70,559.42 crore in 70,11,079 trades on MCX. Call and Put options of Gold traded for Rs.2,37,234.38 crore, Call and Put options of Silver and Silver-Mini traded for Rs.25,795.65 crore. In the Energy segment, Call and Put options of Crude Oil traded for Rs.4,83,337.32 crore and Call and Put options of Natural Gas traded for Rs.1,15,259.14 crore.
