Mumbai, 21st July. As part of the expansion campaign of the “National Centre for Performing Arts” (NCPA), an elegant interactive Bharatanatyam workshop was conducted under the guidance of Mrs. Nisha Gilbert, founder of ‘Nupur School of Dance’. This workshop was organized for the children of ‘Angel Express Foundation’ located in Sion, Mumbai on Friday, 19th July, 2024. In this special cultural workshop, the emotional expression of natural beauty through Bharatanatyam was splendidly demonstrated and the children were given easy training in this traditional Indian dance form.
Briefing about this workshop, Mrs. Nisha Gilbert, founder of Nupur School of Dance, shared that the NCPA expansion is a unique cultural initiative, primarily aimed at connecting the new generation of all sections of society with the rich cultural heritage and tradition of our country through Indian classical dances. The main attraction of this beautiful program was “Ritu Haram” under which the concept of “Seasons Garland” showcased all seasons and folk dances of various states to the children involving them to understand and experience the beauty of Bharatanatyam.
She mentioned that in this workshop, the institution’s students Ananya Srinivasan, Aditi, Avni, Sharayu, and Elizabeth beautifully portrayed the four seasons – Monsoon, Spring, Winter, and Summer through Bharatanatyam. The performances included the dance of the peacock during monsoon, fish swimming, frogs croaking, and children playing in the water. During spring, the blossoming of flowers, chirping of birds and bees collecting pollen were beautifully expressed. Similarly the joy of Christmas, Santa Claus and children enjoying the cold weather were depicted during winter, while the feeling of eating mangoes with friends and playing during holidays was showcased for summer. The children of ‘Angel Express Foundation’ were mesmerized, excited, and delighted by these performances. They were tapping their feet to the dance and music, understanding how everyday activities and natural events can be beautifully expressed through Bharatanatyam. All participants of this workshop praised the innovative initiative of ‘NCPA Expansion,’ realizing the importance of sharing their art and passion with others meaningfully and wholeheartedly.
