Panvel, Raigad – Kokan Kala va shikshan vikas Sanstha, an NGO, partnered with Arkema Chemical Company to train 40 underprivileged women under Train The Trainer Program in Panvel, Raigad with tailoring and fashion design skills. The 3-month program aimed to equip them for financial independence.
Each graduate received a sewing machine, a tailor’s kit, and a completion certificate. Dignitaries from Arkema Chemical Mr. Vivekkumar Jagtap, Mr. Sanjeev Dhiman , Ms. Deepa Arora, and Mr. Vipul Sawant presented the certificates and machines to all the beneficiaries.
Arkema beneficiaries gained confidence in themselves and were able to step out of the house because of the Silai School initiative. They were able to express their vibrant culture and their confidence through dance performances, rangoli displays, and welcome songs. These women belong to various backgrounds: tribal, widowed, economically backward, unmarried and less educated, who were now resolved to be self-reliant.
Volunteers of Kokan NGO Abhijeet Redekar, Ayush Angre, Shweta Chorge, Emannuel Dass, Sunita Marchande, Sahil Patil, trainer Kalavati Gharat, and the project implementing team Priti Pange, Sakshi Pote, Sandesh Gaikwad and founder of Kokan NGO, Mr. Dayanand Kubal actively participated, motivating the spirit of beneficiaries.
This initiative by Kokan NGO signifies a significant milestone towards women’s empowerment in Raigad. Reshma Koli, a beneficiary of the course, praised the work of the organization. Stating that we will provide livelihood for our families from the machines received through Arkema and Kokan. Whereas, Tejashree Kutle, a beneficiary, assured all that I will definitely make the most of the machine and will establish an identity of my own, promoting Arkema and Kokan’s work. Mr. Vipul Sawant, dignitary of Arkema Chemical provided a motivational speech addressing the beneficiaries of their courage to learn something new and a grand opportunity for their upliftment.
By equipping these women with skills and resources, the program empowers them to take charge of their futures and build a brighter tomorrow for themselves and their families. The event was moderated by Sunita Marchande and a vote of thanks was given by Project Manager Priti Pange appreciating the bravery of rural women and the kindness of Arkema Chemical for their generosity. Through this Silai school, 480 women from the villages will be imparted skill education in the next one year. This program will help raise their social standard of living. The beneficiaries thanked Kokan NGO and Arkema Company for the opportunity given to them.
