Major Incentives Announced in Union Budget for AYUSH Infrastructure and Global Outreach
WHO Global Traditional Medicine Centre, Jamnagar to be Upgraded
Union Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, while presenting the Union Budget on 1st February 2026, announced a series of transformative measures aimed at establishing India as a global hub for Medical Value Tourism (MVT) and strengthening the AYUSH ecosystem with a focus on quality, research, employment generation and global outreach.
Prof. Dr. Tanuja Nesari, Director of the Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA), Jamnagar, welcomed the 20% increase in allocation for the AYUSH sector and the special announcement for the World Health Organization (WHO) by the Government of India. She expressed gratitude to the Government, stating that these initiatives will significantly promote Ayurveda and the entire AYUSH system at the global level, and that Jamnagar will achieve a new milestone on the world map with the further development of the WHO Centre
Upgradation of the WHO Global Traditional Medicine Centre, Jamnagar to strengthen evidence-based research, training and global awareness in traditional medicine systems.
These initiatives reaffirm the Government’s commitment to integrating traditional systems with modern healthcare frameworks, enhancing India’s soft power, and positioning the country as a trusted global destination for holistic and evidence-based healthcare.
On this occasion, heartfelt gratitude is extended to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Union Finance Minister Smt.
