Mumbai : India’s leading commodity derivatives exchange, Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) has recorded turnover of Rs.11,21,481.72 crores in various futures & option contracts for commodities listed at MCX during the week of March 7 to 13. A movement of 240 points was seen in the April futures of Bulldex, the precious metals index.
In precious metal futures, GOLD and SILVER witnessed a total trading volume of Rs.73,204.54 crore in 7,13,147 trades on MCX. In GOLD contracts, MCX GOLD April futures per 10 gram opened at Rs.87,781, touched an intra-day high of Rs.89,796 and a low of Rs.87,657 during the week and ended the week with a gain of Rs.931 at Rs.88,706.
GOLD-GUINEA March contract per 8 gram jumped Rs.1,244 to Rs.72,156 and GOLD-PETAL March contract per 1 gram rose Rs.135 to Rs.9,047. GOLD-MINI April futures opened at Rs.87,909 per 10 gram and rose Rs.952 to close at Rs.88,646.
In SILVER futures, SILVER May futures opened at Rs.1,01,999 per kg, touched a high of Rs.1,01,999 and a low of Rs.98,518 during the week intra-day, and closed the week down by Rs.1153 at Rs.99,392. SILVER-MINI April contract fell by Rs.1132 to Rs.99,317 and SILVER-MICRO April contract fell by Rs.1,106 to Rs.99,313.
In metals futures, MCX witnessed a turnover of Rs.11,339.75 crore in 76,337 trades. ALUMINIUM March futures fell by Rs.3.50 to Rs.261.55 per kg and ZINC March futures fell by Rs.3.25 to Rs.275. In comparison, COPPER March contract rose by Rs.9.30 to Rs.907.40 and LEAD March contract fell by Rs.4.05 to Rs.179.
In energy segment futures, a total of Rs.32,016.16 crore was traded in 7,14,353 trades on MCX. CRUDE OIL April futures opened the week at Rs.5,813, touched intra-day high of Rs.5,948 and low of Rs.5,744 during the week and closed the week at Rs.5,897, up by Rs.107 per barrel, while NATURAL GAS April futures closed at Rs.352 per 1 MMBTU, down by Rs.16.60.
In agricultural commodities, Rs.36.91 crore was traded in 736 trades on MCX. COTTON CANDY March futures opened at Rs.52,790 per candy, touched a high of Rs.53,500 and a low of Rs.52,500 during the week, and closed the week at Rs.53,350, up Rs.560. MENTHA OIL futures March contract declined by Rs.26.60 to Rs.931.10 per 1 kg.
In terms of trading, among precious metals, GOLD futures traded in 2,04,373 trades for a total of 51,967.277 kg worth Rs.46,067.01 crore and SILVER futures traded in 5,08,774 trades for a total of 2,696.302 tonnes worth Rs.27,137.53 crore. In the energy segment, CRUDE OIL futures traded 85,12,900 barrels worth Rs.4,980.70 crore in 64,084 trades, and NATURAL GAS futures traded 63,30,55,000 MMBTU worth Rs.22,566 crore in 3,04,065 trades. In agricultural commodities, COTTON CANDY futures traded 14,832 candies worth Rs.19.85 crore in 286 trades, and MENTHA OIL contracts traded 180.36 tonnes worth Rs.17.06 crore in 450 trades.
Open Interest ended the week at 25,262.439 kg in GOLD Futures and 945.517 tonnes in SILVER Futures, 5,91,600 barrels in CRUDE OIL and 2,31,70,000 MMBTU in NATURAL GAS and 13,104 candies in COTTON Candy, 100.8 tonnes in Mentha Oil on MCX.
In Index Futures, 126 lots worth Rs.12.64 crore were traded in 125 trades in Bulldex Futures during the week on MCX. Open Interest in Bulldex Futures stood at 137 lots. Bulldex April futures opened at 21,010 and moved up by 240 points to close at 21,225.
In options, Options on Futures recorded a notional turnover of Rs.10,04,871.72 crore in 84,17,640 trades on MCX. Call and put options of GOLD were traded for Rs.2,43,271.44 crore, call and put options of SILVER and SILVER-MINI were traded for Rs.17,330.22 crore. In the energy segment, call and put options of CRUDE OIL were traded for Rs.4,58,258.67 crore and call and put options of NATURAL GAS were traded for Rs.2,70,626.49 crore.
